VETERANS ASSISTANCE COMMISSIONS
OF WILL, KENDAL, AND GRUNDY COUNTIES
Veterans Assisstance Commissions are enabled under provisions of The Military Veterans Assistance Act, 330 ILCS 45. They can be created one per county in Illinois by established county posts of veterans service orgizations such as VFW, American Legion, DAV, Marine Corps League, and AMVETS. They are funded by the counties in which they are located.
VACs provide assistance for honorably discharged servicemen and their families with filing claims for VA benefits, enrolement in VA Health Care, temporary financial assistance for emergencies, housing, and living expenses, transportation to VA clinics and hospitals, and other needs.
The Minooka American Legion is located in and near Will, Grundy, and Kendal Counties. The VAC that serves most of our membership and community is the one located in your county.
The Illinos Department of Veterans Affairs assist veterans in navigating a complex web of services and benefits available. IDVA runs 49 full-time and 35 part-time offices in 80 of Illinois' 102 counties. These offices are staffed by Veteran Service Officers (VSO’s), fellow veterans who are experts on federal, state, and local veteran resources.
